SEOUL, February 11, 2022 – Kia Corporation is the top-ranked auto brand in J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) taking the industry’s top brand rankings overall, including the top spot.

The J.D. Power 2022 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) ranks Kia as the overall leader among all major automotive brands (mainstream and luxury) in the U.S. Kia is the 2022 top-ranked brand overall, including all mass-market and premium brands, based on VDS’s PP100 (problems per 100 vehicles) scoring criteria. The industry-wide study examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year old vehicles (2019 model year). Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100). Thus, a lower score reflects a higher level of quality.

Based on the new criteria, Kia jumped two positions to take the top spot overall with a PP100 score of 145, beating the industry average by 47 points. Kia Sorento took the top honor in the upper midsize SUV segment for the second consecutive year.

It is the second consecutive year that Kia has claimed the top spot among mass-market brands, coming in third overall last year behind two premium brands. This is the first time that a non-premium brand has been awarded first overall in the ranking in the history of VDS.

“The results of this year’s J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study substantiate Kia’s unrelenting commitment to the quality, durability and craftsmanship of our award-winning vehicle line,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America. “Furthermore, the Sorento’s category win speaks to the world-class ownership experience we deliver to our customers.

”Locally, Kia Jamaica also had praise for Kia’s commitment to their vehicle quality which has been showing in their continued growth year on year. Kevin Jackson, Senior Sales Manager at Kia Jamaica noted “The Kia model line-up ranging from the affordable compact SUV, the Sonet, right up to the Sorento are among the best in their class and the results at the J.D. Power VDS demonstrate that. This year marks Kia’s 4th anniversary in Jamaica under the ATL Automotive Group and we remain committed to continuously providing our customers with quality vehicles that provide a balance of style, comfort, durability and technology.
